Event 4: Conference "Active Participation as a means for Community Development" in Kalamata, Greece

The event involved 203 citizens, including 1 participant from the city of Rezekne, Latvia, 1 participant from the city ofRazlog, Bulgaria, 1 participant from the city of Slavonski Brod, Croatia, 1 participant from the city of Bologna, Italy and 1 participant from the city of Marseilles, France.

The aim of the event was to present the activities that happened at local level in the partner countries, as well as to introduce the theme that was selected during the local debates, Active Citizenship and Volunteerism, and to introduce the network that was created during the project, namely the A.L.T.I.U.S. European Network for the Promotion of Volunteerism and Active Citizenship.
During the conference that was organized, with the title “Active Participation as a means for Community development”, the notion of active citizenship and participation from Ancient Greece to today’s Europe was analysed, we looked for answers regarding the way that Active Citizenship and promotion of Volunteerism can be encouraged, and good practices and examples of people and groups that through their active participation strengthened their society were presented. During the 3rd day of the event, 3 workshops were organized, where the participants had the opportunity to better comprehend the meaning and importance of volunteerism, understand better Active Citizenship and learn how to use new technologies to promote Civil Society activities.
